Classifier and approximative constructions in Korean: grammatical properties and semantic characteristics

Summary/Abstract: The paper considers two types of quantitative constructions in Korean — classifier constructions and constructions with the meaning of approximation. A syntactic and semantic analysis of classifier constructions is sketched. A survey of grammatical means used in formation of approximation constructions is given (with derivational affixes, particles, adverbs). Synonymous grammatical means for approximation are discussed in more detail; also, grammatical and semantic parameters of quantitative words and constructions that are typologically relevant are highlighted.
