Summary/Abstract: In a knowledge-based economy the importance of innovativeness as a source of competitive advantage is growing. The results of numerous literature studies show that the company’s competitive position depends on its innovativeness level. This article aims to analyze the relationship between innovativeness of firms and their competitive position based on the results of a nationwide survey conducted in 2010 on a representative sample of 600 small and medium-sized enterprises. The analysis of the results of the study demonstrates the existence of grounds for claiming a positive relationship existing between the competitive position of enterprises and their innovativeness.
