Summary/Abstract: Although the Cognitive Interview method was developed already in early 1980s, it became popular in European research centers only in the last decade. A scanty group of specialists in this area tend to describe and analyze doubts concerning its application rather than its real effectiveness for deposition purposes. Considering a limited number of studies on the method, and despite a high level of its effectiveness, very little attempts have been made to promote its application in typical police procedures. To answer such need, the paper discusses the question of the credibility of the Cognitive Interview method. The topic is dealt with both from the theoretical and the practical perspective discussed on a basis of a real method instruction. Additionally, it presents the results of studies carried out with the use of the Cognitive Interview and, on this basis, attempts to define the reliability of depositions obtained with this method.
