Summary/Abstract: In this paper the author discusses the main attributes and consequences of the two opposing models of capitalism – social market economy and self-regulating economy. Furthermore a thesis has been demonstrated that the evolution of capitalism is the result of two processes, of which one is increasing the scope of self-regulation, and the other is the decreasing or mitigating of its social consequences. The final effect of deregulation of the labor market and capital market is a neoliberal economic system, which is characterized by a temporary nature. Its new attribute is its global dimension and progressive financialization of the economy.
