Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the heritage of Polish word formation in the period of 1989–2014. The key criterion of description is the character of the linguistic material subjected to analysis. For this reason the achievements of synchronic and diachronic word formation are described separately. An additional criterion is the method and tools used in the research (structural word formation, cognitive word formation, pragmatic word formation). The paper also emphasizes the relations between derivational and lexicological research.
