Seneca’s Views on Suicide and its Significance for the Contemporary Discussion on Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide

Summary/Abstract: The author analyses the views of Seneca the Younger and Marcus Aurelius on suicide. Pointing to the arguments of the Stoics for practicing assisted death in everyday life, the author discusses the topical issue of legal assisted suicide. He takes up the question of how far the laws should interfere in the will of man, resignation from its legal protection and turning the will into the crime.
