Summary/Abstract: The report presents initial findings of the factor structure and psychometric characteristics of questionnaire for assessment of motivational tendencies for suppression and activation of behavior (BIS / BAS) in Bulgarian sample, developed by Charles Carver and Terry White. We have a proof of a two-factor structure of the questionnaire that reflects the two main scales. Internal consistency of the scales is very good (Cronbach‘s alpha> 0,765). The two scales are independent (r = 0,159 *, p=,005). External validity of the questionnaire is confirmed by its relationships with the level of experienced stress, coping strategies used, and the fear of success. High levels of BAS scale are associated with low scores of experienced stress, use of problem-focused strategies for coping with stress and low levels of fear of success. BIS scale has a high negative correlation with the levels of experienced stress and fear of success, and positive correlation with emotion-focused strategies for coping with stress.
