Summary/Abstract: A Hungarian Well-being Indicator System was worked out by the Hungarian Central Statistical Office. We set up an indicator system about well-being to provide relevant information for decision makers, economic actors, and the society about the state of the country following the international and national social science trends. In my research I analyse regional inequalities from the Hungarian Well-being Indicator System perspective. One of my main goals is to compare the seven Hungarian region’s status with a particular emphasis on under developed regions. I investigate how the regions perform in the case of objective and subjective indicators. My hypothesis is that underdeveloped regions have similar results in the case of objective variables (i.e. poverty rate, work intensity rate, income status) than in the case of subjective indicators (i.e. life satisfaction, satisfaction with income status, trust in people). I found that in most cases, a region that underperforms in objective variables also underperforms in subjective variables. However, there are some notable exceptions. For example, people in underdeveloped regions tend to be more hopeful and trusting.
