Summary/Abstract: The analysis was aimed at an assessment of the activities of sugar industry in Poland. Sugar market in Poland as well as in the great majority of the EU member countries has an oligopolistic structure. The sector regulations based on production quotas define the condition of the oligopoly activities andmarket game. Sugar holdings can compete with each other in respect of the production volume to a very limited extent. At the same time any agreements (such as for instance a cartel) are forbidden by the law. Therefore there is more room for price competition (Bertrand model) or the competition in respect of total production costs.
