Seasonality of unemployment in EU countries

Summary/Abstract: The goal of the study is the comparative analysis of seasonal unemployment in the EU countries, USA and Japan. There was presented an average level of seasonal variation of unemployment, changes in seasonal components of unemployment during the year, and the relationship between changes in the seasonality of unemployment and unemployment changes. In general, the European Union is characterized by a lower seasonal unemployment than the USA and Japan but the difference decreased between 2005 and 2012. There are considerable differences in seasonality of unemployment between EU countries. Markets in which unemployment increased faster showed a faster decrease in its seasonality.
