Summary/Abstract: The research analyzes the conceptual evolution of collective security within the region of Euro-Asia and extended Black Sea area. EU, NATO and Romania have to take effective measures against the sources of instability, terrorist threats and lack of control, specific to the extended Black Sea area, in order to ensure the necessary regional security. The security environment is more and more sensitive due to transatlantic, EU and Russian interests, along with the regional and frozen conflicts, and this complicated situation makes it difficult for the region to become a part of the Euro-Atlantic alliance. The defense and collective security concepts and the models offered by several regional organizations could be important for identifying new ways of action and types of cooperation, needed to manage a broad spectrum of tensions and risks, in order to develop especially the naval and air security component at the EU and NATO’s Eastern Frontier.
