Summary/Abstract: This article reviews rampant skepticism about democratization in post-conflict countries, contrasting sharply with the number of military interventions and post-conflict assistance programs justified by the logic of democratic peace. Initial manifestations of democracy - the liberalization of public and electoral competition in a social context devoid of civic maturity and conflicts may intensify existing cleavages in post-conflict states, leading to renewed violence. A holistic security sector reform and a well planned sequence of economic and political changes are the correct answer to the limits of democratization in post-conflict states.
