Summary/Abstract: The paper examines the research methodology and the essence of the process of convergence. The analysis refers to two types of convergence: beta-convergence and sigma- -convergence. The paper includes the results of the conducted study of beta-convergence and sigma-convergence in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe in 1990-2011, taking German economy as a benchmark. The main goal of the conducted study is to examine the impact of the global crisis on the process of convergence in the analysed countries. The analysis was conducted both for the entire analysed period and shorter sub-periods before the global crisis.
