Summary/Abstract: This paper provides an overview of the issues related to the role of teachers in the light of the new duties assumed under the 2000 education reform. The author provides information about the teachers, their status, qualification standards, scope and quality of education, career paths as well as their remuneration and skills improvement schemes which were then implemented. The article concludes with a brief summary.
