Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to search for an answer to the question whether the remuneration as the material value may be a permanent source of employee motivation source. An attempt to answer this question will be a synthetic analysis of the role of money in motivation against a background of selected theories of management and economics: the two-factor theory of motivation by F. Herzberg, management by commitment, the price elasticity of consumer demand, the law of diminishing marginal utility by Gossen, definitional differences in terms of wages terms of stakeholder theory. The conclusion of the arguments in the article is the statement that there cannot be identified a simple relationship between pay and motivation. Adopting this perspective allows to put forward a thesis: first of all conditions to obtain a certain amount of income from work are an attribute of motivating employees to act. Money could be a base for the sense of satisfaction and contentment. A key factor influencing the attitude of a permanent incentive remuneration in terms of configuration are: its structure, the adopted criteria, the possibility of growth, equity income redistribution and the relations with the knowledge, competence and results of work.
