Sustainable development approach in agriculture competitiveness of Eastern Poland

Summary/Abstract: This paper identifies and examines some major issues of agriculture competitiveness in Eastern Poland voivodeships which are characterized by the lowest level of social-economic development both in Poland and in the European Union. The results of examined region were considered basing upon average results for Poland to show their competitive advantage. An analysis of competitiveness regarded the chosen measures of agriculture stainable development typical of three aspects of sustainability: economic, environmental and social one. The survey shows that Poland is characterized by the following competitive advantages: low level of fertilization, high share of arable lands kept in good rural culture as well as the high degree of ecological agriculture development so above mentioned factors are strictly connected with environmental aspect of sustainability. It should be noted that economic sphere belongs to one of weaknesses of Polish agriculture.
