Summary/Abstract: Rethinking the connections of a sixteenth century family. The Korniakt merchants and Moldavia from 1540 to 1570. The connections between the Korniakt family and the principality of Moldavia appear to have been quite different from what we have been used to believe. The presence of his main agents in the principality north of the Danube was episodic in nature. It was needed because of transiting the country with goods destined for Polish or Ottoman markets. Most of the times, however, this task was carried out by trading brokers which the family maintained north of the Danube. These agents probably placed part of the goods on the local market and supplemented local products to the main goods offered by the family on the two aforementioned markets. The reason for this behaviour is exclusively economic: the family owned important capital and sought to maximize this potential. Proof of this is the conclusion of Polish researchers who indicate that the Korniakt family usually carried out transactions of large quantities and value. This potential could not be reached on the market of the small Moldavian principality.
