Summary/Abstract: This article is mainly devoted to various forms of activities which are present among older persons (65+) living in Gdańsk. The analysis is based on research done in 2012 using 1500 face-to-face interviews (representative sample). After a short presentation of some typologies of activities, you can find in gerontological literature, authors describe the following list of activities recognized during the research: paid work, physical activity, cultural activity, hobbies, computer activities, meetings with friends and neighbours, social activity (membership in organizations and voluntary work) as well as a need for institutionalized offer directed to elderly persons. Especially sex, age and a level of education often differentiate the level of seniors’ personal activities. Additionally, authors underline a need for more gerontological research projects, especially done by (or with) Polish sociologists, show some possibilities of practical application of research data (recommendations, strategies, future planning) and also underline a need to develop a sociology of old age in Poland.
