Innovation in environmental policy in the European Union

Summary/Abstract: Environmental policy of the developed European countries is focused on preventing the negative consequences of climate change and implementing the mechanisms for reducing dangerous effects of various anthropogenic factors. It should be noted that a significant number of environmental threatens has been limited as a result of the implementation of innovations. The general concept of innovation and eco-innovation is presented in the paper. Relationship between environmental policy and innovation policy aiming to achieve sustainable development is demonstrated. At the end of the article, the European Union's innovation policy integrated with the environmental policy as well as the main European programs for innovation are indicated.
