Summary/Abstract: Media is our daily gateway to the world and we, as consumers, are constantly bombarded by news from every possible direction. Media content in any shape or form is subject to many influences that eventually impact our perception of the world around us. On the other hand,we have access to a large repository of short amateur documentary films by young authors from across Europe and beyond through Student Cuts Film Festival. These films are independently produced visions of their authors and as such represent unconventional, creative, energetic and subtle ideas. Such films provide an important insight into the local environments and everyday themes seen from an entirely different perspective. We can see authors prefer personal stories and personal storytelling and as such unearth fresh stories or new perspectives. However their approach to telling these stories leaves something to be desired as they tend to conform to expectations that were never expressed. Films are predominantly interview driven narratives with little experimentation in topic interpretation.
