Summary/Abstract: The subject of the paper is the relationship between extralinguistic knowledge of object named and information, that should be included into the dictionary definition of proper name. As well as the book have to be a dictionary, only the linguistic-grounded elements of knowledge (also called connotations) should be taken into the consideration. These connotations are based on the linguistic data, e.g. metaphoric usages of names, collocations, and words from names. There are examples of tentative definitions of names Switzerland and Midas in the paper.
