Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the present research is to see how the semantic differences between both lexemes “разбирам” in Bulgarian language and “ruzumět” in Czech language are reflected on a grammatical level. The emphasis is mostly on the differences in the rection of these verbs. We use a complex approach which includes the theory of semantic roles and valence theory. Via analysis of dictionary articles, and determination of the semantic roles and the mandatory valent positions we carry out a comparison in terms of semantic characteristics of the verbs meaning 'understand' in Czech and Bulgarian.
