Application of the concept of creative destruction to analysis of development processes in European Union

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the study is to determine the role of creative destruction in economic development of European Union countries. We propose a hypothesis, that creative destruction in the economy positively infl uences its development and raises its participation in development processes of the whole EU. The hypothesis was tested for panel data on 26 countries - members of EU between 2006 and 2011. Results indicate that creative destruction is a significant factor determining economic development: creation is positively linked with measures of economic development and destruction weakens development processes. The main conclusion from the study is that economic development of the economic union depends not only on innovations implemented in enterprises, but also on market selection which works on every level of economic structure of EU
