Effects of FDI for productivity - creation or destruction?

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the study is to analyze the infl uence of FDI on creative destruction in productivity. We propose a hypothesis that FDI strengthen creative destruction in productivity and the greater technology gap the smaller impact of FDI on creation and the stronger on destruction. The analysis, based on panel data on 24 countries - members of EU between 2000 and 2012 does not produce evidence supporting our hypothesis. Results indicate that FDI stimulate creation, but slow down destruction. Moreover, the infl uence of FDI on creation and destruction in productivity is weaker in high technology gap. The main conclusion of our analysis is that in UE countries FDI is a stimulus of creation
