Summary/Abstract: Iuliu Hossu, thefirstGreek-Catholicbishopand cardinal in Romania had an outstandingactivityduringtheinterwar period. He attendedthe Great Assembly of Alba-Iulia in 1918 andisconsiderednowadaysone of themost important perpetrators of the Great Union. Moreover, accompaniedbytheOrthodox Bishop Miron Cristea, Vasile Goldisand Alexandru Vaida-Voevod, hepresentedtheUnification Act to King Ferdinand I. Afterthecommunistregimetookpower, Bishop Iuliu Hossu wasarrestedandheld in prison or housearrest for 22 years, untilhisdeath. This period isdescribedby Hossu in his volume: “Ourfaithisourlife. Memoirs of Cardinal Iuliu Hossu”. The volume isdividedintothreemainparts: thearrest, hisdetention in Sighet (for fiveyears) andthemandatoryresidence period until 1961. Thisbookrepresents an extraordinarytestimony. It isnotwrittenwithhate but ratherwithlove as Bishop Iuliu Hossu pointed out: “Take therefore, mydears, thisword as my testament, in which I offeryouwhat I mostexpensivelypossess: mylove for youall, for yourdearsons, for theirmanyfollowers”.
