Summary/Abstract: Thomas Holtgraves’ Conversation Indirectness Scale includes two subscales: Interpretation and Production. The first refers to understanding of people, the other concerns attitude toward one’s own statements. Cultural adaptation of the scale was performed on the sample of 1339 participants. As the result of confirmatory factor analysis one item from the original scale was removed. Correlation tests partly confirm expectations that follow from the Holgraves’ theory with regard to the relationship between inclination toward indirect communication and communal orientation, empathy and duration of partnership relation. Theoretical part of the paper describes motivation for communication indirectness and relationship between communication indirectness and culture.
