Summary/Abstract: The article relates the story of the author's father, Macedonian poet Yovan Koteski (1932-2001), and the latter's fate during the communist period. Throughout nearly his whole life, he was kept under surveillance by the communist secret services of Tito's Yugoslavia. Yovan Koteski's police file under the code name The Intimate (Intimist) is one of the 14 572 dossiers officially declared to have existed during the communist period of Macedonia. The text elucidates the status of these dossiers in present-day Republic of Macedonia: they are generally closed to the public, being accessible only under very serious restrictions. The author supports the idea of full opening of the archives to researchers, interested persons, and the public. The text tries to explain the possible mechanisms for reconciliation, i.e. what is needed, and why, for our recovery in today's post-communist world.
