Case study as a research method in accounting – methodological analysis of selected applications

Summary/Abstract: In contemporary accounting research there is a great diversity of research problems and research methods. The article presents the analysis of a case study as a research method used in accounting. On the basis of literature studies of the metodology of case studies, the comparative analysis of selected applications was carried out. Studies and the analysis show that case study is a very compound and flexible method which can be used in different fields of accounting research. The use of case study may also help to fulfill the gap between reality (practice) and research, thus becoming a potential answer to critical opinions on the state of contemporary accounting research. Case study may also be an alternative for quantitative research methods, which domination in accounting research is criticized by many authors.
