Summary/Abstract: This article analyses the image of Sarmatism in Jacek Komuda’s novel in the context of Polish fantasy literature. Kobus points out the specific condition of Polish fantasy as a genre of popular fiction, arguing that it is rooted in the unique character of Polish Romanticism. Examining the involvement of Polish fantasy in national phantasms, he describes its compensating role, which is particularly visible in historical novels that function as fantasy fiction on the official publishing market.
