The Expresssion of Evidentiality in Northern Khanty Dialects

Summary/Abstract: The article explicates the vital role of certain verb forms and special lexemes in expressing evidentiality. Such morphological and lexical units bearing a ­specific epistemic load are indispensable in rendering evidential meanings in many ­languages. As for Khanty, the phenomenon has been hitherto little studied, which makes the presented examples especially valuable.
