Summary/Abstract: The idea of the Fourth Polish Republic, formulated in 1998 by Rafał Matyja, was presented in an electoral platform of the Law and Justice party in 2005. It assumed the reform of the public life in Poland by a thorough reform of the state and settling with the period of The People’s Republic of Poland. During the government years 2005-2007, the party succeeded in implementing a few economic reforms and making significant changes in other areas. However, the Law and Justice didn’t succeed in implementing the most important reforms that they had announced earlier, that is the recovery of the state. The Party was widely criticized mainly due to its style of ruling and the foreign policy that it pursued. Thereby, after two years of ruling, the Law and Justice lost its authority, which meant the collapse of the idea of the Fourth Polish Republic.
