Summary/Abstract: Purpose — the intangible assets have been the increasing source of comparative advantage for companies in the contemporary economy. The costs of development works may be the element of intangible assets, after the specific IFRS 38 conditions have been fulfilled. The goal of the paper is to compare these conditions to the rules of polish accounting act. Design/Methodology/Approach — in the paper the IFRS 38 rules have been compared with polish accounting act. Additionally, the evaluation issues, amortization and impairment rules have been analyzed in the paper. Finally, the author of the paper has described the case study concerning balance sheet consequences of decision about costs of development works. Findings - in spite of described differences of regulations regarding costs of development works, the decision about disclosure at intangible assets' evidence has substantial influence on operating income of company. Originality/Value - in the paper the new International Financial Reporting Standard 13, "Fair Value Measurement" has been taken into account. The participation of an author in the audit of financial statement of the presented company was the rationale of the consideration in the paper.
