Summary/Abstract: This study analyses the industrial growth in Hungarian counties and Budapest (i.e. in NUTS3 units) in a period of 50 years, between 1964 and 2013. The paper examines the trends of county level industrial volume indices published by the Hungarian Central Statistical Office. The study focuses both on long term characteristics of the time series, and compares the periods of the socialist and the post-socialist period. Spatial characteristics of two specific recession periods – the first years after the change of regime and the period after the 2008 global economic crisis – are detailed additionally. Beyond numerical analysis of data the authors highlight the main mechanisms and influencing factors of the territorial processes of the industry. They assign typical county groups, including regions of industrial dynamics or areas of long-term depression. The summary of the study compares the results also with the “concept of reindustrialization”. The appendix of the paper provides the whole test database.
