Summary/Abstract: In the article we discuss the phenomenon of overwork, which belongs to important social problems in the contemporary world. Its goal is to systemize knowledge about types of overworked employees and to present future direction for research on and analyses of this topic. The first part of the article presents definitions of workaholism and typologies of overworked employees. The second part includes research results on individual, social and professional functioning of different types of overworked employees. The third part considers how to use the knowledge of overworked employees, as well as the limitations of taking a typology perspective in this area. The article presents knowledge of the phenomenon of overwork, which goes beyond a narrow focus, regarding workaholism as an addiction with negative consequences.
