Summary/Abstract: Across two studies we explored the dimensionality of the new scales measuring immutability and incrementality of moral character, and also their relations to a series of measures, including linguistic practices, general and case‑specific punitiveness, dichotomous thinking, authoritarianism and social trust. Present results indicated that the proposed measures function as independent intercorrelated factors, tend to correlate with the same dispositional dimensions and types of moral judgment, but nevertheless we found a series of differences, which sustain previous proposals that entity theory and incremental theory may be two parallel constructs, not different ends of a single continuum. We discuss the implications of or finding for moral evaluation, punishment, and for understanding and expanding implicit theory research.
