Summary/Abstract: In this article, the author analyses the category of “learned ignorance” present in Socrates’ and Bodhidharma’s translations, contrasting it with a recentivistic theory of cognition. The article aims to show that Bodhidharma’s “learned ignorance” is expressed by means of the maxim of “I don’t know if I know anything”, and is recentivistic in character.
