Summary/Abstract: The main purpose of this article is to discuss how the categories used initially by Maria Ossowska (1896-1974) to set forth her concept of descriptive ethics can be redefined and adjusted to provide a new field of view of the subject of educational discourse in Poland, particularly with regard to moral education. The right educational experience should not impose "only the right options", but should rather propose a full range of values and support young people's choices from the top of their axiological awareness and self-consciousness (personal virtues). What is more, these choices should always enhance moral practice where civil society is concerned. Ossowska's concept of a new moral science implies - inter alia - a psychology of morality that falls into several categories, which may be used to develop a program of moral education as described above. The general assumption is that Ossowska's categories can be used successfully to establish an adequate core curriculum of ethics in Polish schools.
