Summary/Abstract: The article gives an overview over the mechanism used to construct the memory and to mythologize the image of Hristina Hranova (1851/52 - 1922) who is alleged to have taken part in the Russian-Ottoman War of 1877 – 1878. It is interesting to trace what the mechanisms of constructing this biographical narrative are concerning the course of time. Hristina Hranova’s image has been not only promoted in the popular historical writing with more and more exotic nuances, but also tacitly institutionalized, which is a significant step towards her mythologizing. We have traced the stages of inventing the image of the heroine which are inseparable from its usage in various social and political contexts.
