Summary/Abstract: The article aims at the description of a reverse mortgage and the presentation of its significance as an alternative method of provision for retirement enabling the increase of revenues of people at post-working age. The footing of this financial product is an agreement conducted by a financial institution and an owner of a real property, on the basis of which in return for the surrender of the rights to the real property, he or she receives a one-off payment or money in the form of a pension. A beneficiary has the right to dwell in perpetuity a real property of which he remains the owner for life. However, after the death of the owner, the inheritors have a possibility to buy up the real property or obtain surplus (if it exists) between the value of real estate and the benefit received by a credit recipient and administrative costs. If the value of real property is lower, the inheritors will not bare any costs. The article includes a presentation of method applied to calculate the amount of benefits connected with the mortgage. In the final part of the study, a possibility to launch the product on the Polish market was analyzed.
