Summary/Abstract: In the article, the author compares two types of giving definitions (common and scientific ones), which are the varieties of the same speech genre and are being formed through the explanation. Though the belong to one speech genre they have more different than similar features. These differences relate to content, function, strategies of explanation, intention, speech embodiment.
