Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to reconsider Czesław Miłosz’s two anthologies of poetry, "Wypisy z ksiąg użytecznych" (1994) and its counterpart in the English language "A Book of Luminous Things" (1996), as metapoetic reflections on the obligations of contemporary poetry. In particular, it highlights the nature of Miłosz’s ideological contention with Wallace Stevens and Richard Rorty.
