Summary/Abstract: Knowledge and innovation are new factors of regional development. This paper presents some assumptions of the new EU development strategy and the place of the Czech Republic in it and defined national targets. The article shows targets of national policy of research, development and innovation of the Czech Republic for period 2009-2015. The article compares the level of education, presents the location of R&D centers in Czech regions, as well as makes an assessment of their development.
