Summary/Abstract: The objective of the paper is to present the possibilities of LCA use in decision processes of manufacturing companies, especially in the scope of their proecological activities. The first part of the paper presents different approaches to the classification of proecological activities in companies and places LCA among them. The following part is dedicated to picturing LCA itself and to relate it to different functions of companies and their proecological activities. This part of the paper results also in prescribing proecological activities to the key areas of LCA use. The last part of the paper presents the assessment of ecological criteria significance in the decision making process oriented on reducing production processes and implementing proecological activities. The assessment is based on the results of two surveys that were conducted within the following scientific projects: (1) Ecological activities in product policies of companies and (2) Sustainable production patterns (SPP) in activities of enterprises – proposals of system solutions supporting SPP in SMEs. The methodology of Analytic Hierarchy Process and Analytic Network Process is used to develop decision models and enable the assessment of LCA use perspectives. Solving the models indicates that the most significant areas of LCA use in manufacturing companies are production processes and products. Additionally, production dematerialization and ecoinnovation are identified as preferable proecological activities and a potential area of LCA use in manufacturing SMEs sector.
