Ways to Confess Love and to Talk about Love (on the Material of the Websight www. wyznania.net)

Summary/Abstract: The subject of the article is an analysis of ways in which the contemporary Polish confess love to each other. About 300 confessions of internet users from the website www.wyznania.net were used for the analysis. Apparently, the greatest variation of confessions is determined by the age of the senders much more than by their sex. Considering the frequency of the phrase kocham cię (I love you) usage, one may conclude that love confession means expressing just this phrase. Lovers accompany it with memories, compliments, promises of everlasting feelings, thanks, apologies, reflections of love and a lot more. Based on the theory of speech genres, we may assume that we have a culturally and linguistically codified pattern of love confession. Thanks to it, we can verbalize our feelings, communicate them to another person and feel the joy of receiving love confessions.
