Summary/Abstract: To define the concept of effective communication, I introduce three notions of a statement’s sense. Suppose that person A utters the sentence Z to a person B. Outcontextually, the indicated sense of the sentence Z is its information sense. The sense, which a person A sets on the sentence Z is its intentional sense. The sense attributed to the sentence Z by a person B is its interpretative sense. In an ideal communicative situation all senses are the same. Communication, however, is already effective when intentional sense agrees with interpretative sense. It is easy to show that so understood communication effectiveness has little to do with logical errors defined by logicians. The text refers to Przemysław Koziński’s work Błędy logiczne w wypowiedziach (Przemysław Koziński was a Warsaw University employee who died tragically 25 years ago). Trans. A. Gierba
