Summary/Abstract: The article is divided into two major parts. The first part examines the cultural and legal factors which have lead to and which sustain the current regime of "no fault divorce" which now exists in all American states and has largely been in place for thirty-some years. The second part introduces the work of the National Marriage Project to Polish readers. The National Marriage Project is a research program at the University of Virginia which produces an annual report on trends in American marriage practice, the data interpreted from a perspective that, in large part, is compatible with a Catholic world view. In the end the author suggests that the National Marriage Project's research model deserves imitation in Europe, and can contribute valuable data to Catholic pastoral care of marriage.
