Kulturwissenschaften and Cultural Studies: Two Dissimilar Siblings?

Summary/Abstract: The essay attempts to make a comparative analysis of cultural studies in the Anglo-American world and in Germany. It outlines the different origins and methodological approaches used in Anglo-American cultural studies and in German „Kulturwissenschaften“ (culture studies) and asks why both styles of thought, although owing to different motivations and intentions, have lost touch with the realm of social studies and especially with political economy.
