ASPECTS OF ORIGINALITY OF ALBANIAN LEGENDARY EPOS

Summary/Abstract: In this paper the author deals with the theme of originality of the Albanian epos in folkloric inter-genre, in the light of folkloristic, but also of modern and post-modern literary criticism. He reaches the conclusion that elements borrowed by Slavic and pro Slavic folklorists as arguments to prove their theses, like epical names, stylistic similar-ities and similar motives, are formal, nonessential and discussable arguments. As such, they cannot be considered as a basic criterion to determine the originality of legendary eposes. He criticises short-sightedness and tendentiousness of some authors in this direction, who in their studies (discussions) present partially some facts as being valid and determining only for Slavic – Bosnian epos. The author brings new arguments, which put under question or prove just the opposite of such their conclusions. An important place the author gives to the comparable consider-ation of epical texts. He underlines the originality of eposes, which cannot be looked for only at originality of themes, motives and subje-cts, but also at ethno-psychological features and conceptual and artistic peculiarities that they contain. From this point of view, there are drawn some peculiarities of our legendary epic, which form its original physi-ognomy.
