The Rite of Spring between parallel mirrors: the translation of fictional dialogue

Summary/Abstract: This paper questions the elements of feigned orality, especially those that make up the fictional dialogue in the novel The Rite of Spring and its translation in Romanian. Some strategies and solutions adopted by the author and the translator are studied and compared; solutions that are characterized primarily by a desire to reduce the distance between the author and the reader. Particular emphasis is placed on phonetics and spelling, in some morphosyntactic aspects, on oral and colloquial language.
