Summary/Abstract: HAMAS is one of the important terrorist organizations acting on regional basis, which argues that it performs its actions for the sake of Islam. Because of the region and circumstances it has come into being, HAMAS has more easily created a certain level of support base for itself and has had a say over the region than the other terrorist organizations which is related to the Islam belief and acts on regional basis. It is a known fact that HAMAS has a very strong support base especially in the areas such as Gaza where some of the socially and economically underprivileged Palestinians live. The fact that the young people living in these areas react more sharply than those living in the more comfortable areas is evaluated to provide an enormously big source for activists to the organization. In order to define HAMAS and its progress in time, the Islamic political movements occurring in Palestine throughout the history and some information about the life of Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, the founder of HAMAS are mentioned in the article. Especially the support given by Israel to the “Islamic Center”, the initiator of HAMAS, due to it’s being an alternative for Palestine Liberation Organization, is considered as one of the important emphasis in the article. In addition, the possibility, in which a movement of having a triggering force (the first Intifada) may cause very big consequences when certain conditions are met, is underlined in the article. The results of developments occurred in Middle East (such as 1991 Gulf War) from the points of view of Palestine and Israel have taken their place in the article as another interesting subject. The fact that the actions of hard-liner Israelis (such as Hebron massacre) are not to be underestimated although the Palestinians are shown as the only responsible for the events occurring in the region is again another subject emphasized in the article. Since HAMAS is the first Sunni organization, which uses suicide bombings as a type of action, it is considered that HAMAS is deemed to deserve the importance attached to itself and therefore this subject is also mentioned in the article.
